We walked up the stairs of the train station with a sea of other people. The stairwell was dark for being mid afternoon and it smelled of urine and cigarettes. At the top i could see the sunshine and hear the voices of people and the horns of taxis . It had been several years since I had been to New York city, long enough to where I was anxious to get my first look at the highly touted city streets. I made it to the top and of course the first building I made eye contact with was Starbucks, but this didn't necessarily surprise me. The sun shine lit the city from low in the sky as we made our way through the hoards of people. The scent of street vendors cooking hot dogs and various cultural dishes was strong enough to overcome the cigarette smoke. We made it up to the top of the Rockefeller Center, which was semi gut wrenching due to my fear of heights, had various encounters with mimes, gangsters, and naked cowboys, and wondered through the billboards in time square. Throughout the madness we managed to take some pictures, in fact, there are tons of pictures; so many that my card was filled by the train ride back out to Long beach. Here are a few.
